DENTAL BRIDGES
Conventional bridges
Bridges are a set of several crowns that allow us to replace a set of teeth. There are often two abutment teeth and in the middle a missing tooth, a "bridge" is made between the abutment teeth. The elements of the bridges can be ceramic-metallic (metal screed covered by laminated ceramic) or full ceramic.
Today bridges are gradually being replaced by dental implants . Indeed bridges require to prepare the abutment teeth which will have to support the load of the replaced teeth and this is not ideal in the long term. However, they remain relevant in many clinical situations, when the implant is not possible.
Conventional bridges tend to decrease, which is not the case with cantilever bridges which are a serious and durable new alternative to dental implants.
Cantilevered bridges
The word cantilevers means "cantilever". In this case, the tooth to be replaced is supported by a single kind of veneer bonded to a neighboring tooth. They find their indication in the anterior area and are of great help, especially in the youngest when implantology is impossible.
Bonded bridge has several advantages:
-
Is relatively easy to achieve in young people,
-
Is very good aesthetically,
-
Requires 2 to 3 appointments
-
Is very little mutilating for the supporting tooth,
-
Do not close the door on an implant in the future.
A cantilever bridge is generally made with a very aesthetic ceramic and very favorable for bonding.

Adhesive dentistry is an exciting discipline. Recent advances in adhesives allow us today to offer aesthetic and minimally invasive solutions. However, this type of bridge is not intended for replacement of the posterior teeth or we will prefer an implant or a conventional bridge.
